The World Feels What Falcon Fans Feel on Sundays at 1pm

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

For weeks I bragged about how good my team was. I talked trash to a few people. I gave an intellectual discussion on why your team was an embarrassment and brought out facts of why my team would win it all. My team has its famous quote and star celebrities supporting it. When it’s game time, I turned on the television, get comfortable, listen to the commentators, I feel happy, then I feel nauseous, then I'm getting upset, then I need to go outside and take a walk, then I lay back on my couch… looking for medicine or a shot, and by the end of the 4th quarter… I feel like I need a bottle or increase my health insurance. If they lose the game, I see which player, play, or coach is to blame. All of these emotions that Atlanta Falcons fans have been feeling… is what the United States citizens are feeling during this election period; especially for those who are glued to their couches, watching CNN, FOX NEWS, or any news media outlet to see how many votes that a certain candidate needs to win. As I write this blog, it looks like it will be a fourth day of counting the ballots.

Are Atlanta sports cursed?

History has not been very good to the Atlanta Falcons. A few years ago, at a SuperBowl, we pretty much had the championship in our hands. We had the New England Patriots by half-time, 28-3. With this score, all the Falcons would need to do is run the ball to knock time off the clock and get first downs. Sounds easy right…. Nope. The third and fourth quarter solidified this statement … “There are 4 Quarters in Football.” With a Tom Brady led team, the Patriots came back and beat my Falcons. We were left with a bad taste in our mouth that honestly, I don’t know if we can get over it. Recently, the Atlanta Falcons got embarrassed by not jumping on the football during an on-side kick, which helped the Dallas Cowboys to win the game. And Yes... we had a big lead in the first half. Watching the news channels, many people expect certain states to lean more to one party than the other. We expected President Trump to take the state of Alabama and Former Vice President Joe Biden to win California. It’s like saying we were expecting The Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. That’s no surprise. But just like how Tua Tagovailoa came in the game in the 2nd half of the Alabama and Georgia College National Championship, the mail in ballots caught people off guard. The Republicans were thinking like the Atlanta Falcons fans… thinking that this was their SuperBowl, but slowly the ballots are getting counted and the numbers are changing. Georgia… which has been Red for years, is now a blue state. As I read earlier from someone on Facebook post, "Atlanta, if ever there was a time for you to blow a lead."

Until the End

What I learned is that I’m not celebrating until I hear a whistle that it's over, the number has been reached, or a white towel has been thrown. That goes for a game or an election. I’ve been disappointed for too long due to the fact of being an Atlanta sports fan. To add another heartbreak, recently the Atlanta Braves only needed 1 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers to go to the World Series. Just 1 win. They were up 3-1 for the series. Sadly, that didn’t happen. But you know what… I’m a true fan and not a fair-weather fan. I will continue to wait until we receive a championship.

I agree Trae and although I am not a big sports guru, this definitely feels like the longest watched game, so hopefully we don’t get any bad refs in there trying to cheat for the other team or call it too soon!!
