5 Songs That Would Be On the Soundtrack to My Life Album

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

Who Is Author Trae D. Johnson

Who is Author Trae D. Johnson? Well… I’m someone’s husband, someone’s son, someone’s brother, someone’s cousin, someone’s uncle, someone’s Godfather, someone’s fraternity brother, and someone’s friend. Seems like the only thing that I am not to someone is their favorite author. Which makes sense because I am coming out with my debut novel, “Family Scars.” Understanding the importance of connecting with your audience, I want to give some facts about myself. To make it unique, I will have songs to describe a certain point in my life.

LL Cool J- I’m Bad

When LL Cool J's song "I'm Bad," came out, I was in elementary school. Back then it was called Rap Music, and I was so infatuated with it. It was one of the first songs that I memorized, which I had my brother to remind me that I shouldn't be saying the m… word out loud throughout the house.

Babyface- Soon As I Get Home

When this song came out, it was at a time that I was attempting to holla at girls. I was so nervous. Those that know me now, wouldn't believe it. Listening to the song, I thought that this is all you had to do to get the girl of your dreams. But when I got older, I realized that you could go to work and pay all of the bills, but that doesn't guarantee that she would stay with you. One other point, as stated before, I was scared to talk to girls. So what was my other option, write poems that eventually became love notes to the one that I admired. Which gave me a passion for writing songs.

New Edition- Boys II Men

Though I have never grown up in the music industry like my favorite group New Edition, the song has me thinking back to when I grew up in Harlem, Georgia and how my life has changed throughout the years. From my middle school crushes, learning how to drive, joining a fraternity, dating, graduating from college, losing my mother, losing my grandmother, and getting married.

Prince- Little Red Corvette

There two main points I have to share when I hear this song. The first point is my maturity level. When this song came out, I was really young. It was a good song to dance to and Prince could sing. I heard the words but thought it was about a guy who loves his car. I mean, growing up, I used to watch Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazard, Transformers, and GOBOTS… all shows that had a car theme or a famous car starring in it. Later on, when I got older and started listening to the lyrics… it totally changed my thought of the song. The song was about a prostitute. The second point I have to mention is about songwriting. Prince was a gifted songwriter. If you listen to a lot of his music, his songwriting skills are phenomenal. Anyone can write, but writing material that is original and can stand the test of time is a goal of mines.

Bobby Brown- Don’t Be Cruel

Bobby Brown is my favorite singer. There are so many songs that I can put on my soundtrack. There are songs like Girlfriend, My Prerogative, Humpin Around, and If It Ain’t Good Enough. I choose Don’t Be Cruel because I look at it like this, if someone does something for me, I’m going to be thankful and very appreciative. I was taught that a person doesn't have to do anything for you, but if they do, be thankful.

I will be doing another 5 songs that describe me soon. But for now, here's a taste of the first 5.
